Why it matters

Hakone Shrine is a place of worship in the wooded Motohakone area near Lake Ashi. Treat it as a distinct site from Hakone Mototsumiya and the separate Kuzuryu Shrine locations. A regular visit can fit into a Lake Ashi itinerary, but New Year, festivals and queues around the lakeside torii can change both access and pacing. Published times for amulets, prayers and the treasure hall are reception windows, not a single opening-hours rule for the whole shrine grounds. Follow on-site etiquette and confirm current transport and special arrangements before visiting.

How to get to Hakone Shrine

Use Moto-Hakone-ko as the stable public-transport hub; Hakone Shrine is about 10 minutes on foot from there. Bus stop patterns can change, so check the current official timetable instead of relying on a fixed stop or service window.

03

How long to spend

Allow about 45–75 minutes for a regular visit; the 60-minute figure is an editorial planning estimate. It excludes the treasure hall, ceremonies, major festivals and any wait for the lakeside torii. Shrine-service reception times should not be read as general grounds opening hours.
