Why it matters

The Hakone Open-Air Museum combines outdoor sculpture with indoor exhibition spaces in Ninotaira. The operator's guide map distinguishes a 60–90 minute route through the main exhibitions from a more relaxed 90–120 minute visit that includes indoor galleries and breaks, so a rushed loop and a full museum visit are different plans. Slopes, stairs, narrow paths and stone paving mean visitors should consult current accessibility guidance for their intended route. Opening hours, admission, weather-related closures and temporary exhibition conditions can change. Photographs containing artworks are not cleared for commercial reuse on Which Japan, so this page intentionally publishes no unlicensed museum image.

How to get to The Hakone Open-Air Museum

The museum is about two minutes on foot from Chokoku-no-Mori Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway. The operator also lists Ninotaira-iriguchi bus stop, followed by about 500 metres or six minutes on foot; that route includes stairs.

How long to spend

Allow about 60–120 minutes. The operator maps roughly 60–90 minutes for the exhibitions and 90–120 minutes for a more leisurely visit with indoor galleries and breaks; the stored 90-minute value is only a comparison midpoint. Check current hours, admission and route conditions before travel.
