Why it matters
Hiroshima Castle presents the city's early-modern history within a moated site in central Motomachi. The reconstructed keep closed in March 2026 and is now an exterior-only landmark, while the restored Ninomaru buildings and grounds remain the practical focus of a visit, subject to the current calendar. It works as a quieter historical counterpoint to the Peace Memorial Park area, but travelers should not plan on entering the keep.
How to get to Hiroshima Castle
The site is about 15 minutes on foot from Kamiyacho-higashi or Kamiyacho-nishi tram stop, about 12 minutes from Kencho-mae Astram station, or about 8 minutes from Godo Chosha-mae bus stop.
How long to spend
Allow about 45–90 minutes for the grounds and available Ninomaru buildings; the 60-minute figure is an editorial planning estimate. Do not plan on entering the keep, and check the current calendar and accessible areas before visiting.
