Why it matters
The Atomic Bomb Dome is the surviving shell of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall and a central landmark in Hiroshima's peace landscape. It stands beside the Motoyasu River near Peace Memorial Park and is viewed from outside; entry into the structure is not permitted. The stop gives important historical context before a museum visit, and its subject matter calls for an unhurried and respectful approach.
How to get to Atomic Bomb Dome
The site is immediately beside Genbaku Domu-mae tram stop. From the South Exit of JR Hiroshima Station, tram routes 2 and 6 take about 20 minutes.
How long to spend
Allow about 15–30 minutes for an exterior visit; the 20-minute figure is an editorial planning estimate, not an official visit time. Check current preservation work and special access controls around August 6 before visiting.
